Our History

Sometimes it takes just one person to start something that will grow into something huge and that’s how HUMPS began in 2013.

Bill Ogden came back from the 2013 Gympie Muster with a strong desire to play the ukulele so he began looking for a ukulele club. Of course there wasn’t one but that wasn’t going to stop Bill.

He began raising some interest in forming a club and the first meeting, of what was to become HUMPS, was held on 22nd September 2013.

26 people attended that first meeting and that was the beginning of what has become known as HUMPS … Hervey Bay Ukelele Music Pickers and Strummers Inc.

Over the years since HUMPS began we have played at gigs ranging from local groups and events and gatherings through to festivals in Brisbane, Childers, Cairns and the Sunshine Coast. Some of our members have even rated a mention in the Courier Mail.

Today we have a membership of over 200 and many of those members turn up every Tuesday night to learn, play, sing and have a lot of fun. Our record attendance for a Tuesday night is 118 and there’s always room for more.

We can teach you … it’s easy … and we have beginners classes every week before the main gathering.

Before long you will be playing it as if you had been doing it all your life.

Why not come along and join the fun?
